SAFETY PAYS OFF
It is always nice to hear about companies adding new jobs and EMD Serono, a subsidiary of Merck KGaA, is doing just that in Billerica, MA at their Research and Development Institute on Middlesex Turnpike. Working as a subsidiary to the Construction Manager Jones Lang LaSalle, Dec-Tam was a part of this expansion. Thirteen Dec-Tam technicians who worked over two months on this job were awarded bonuses by Anthony J. Meenaghan, Director of Engineering, Facilities and EH&S for EMD Serono. These awards were for their “hard work and performance related to the project and for how safely the work was executed.” Brian Fitzsimons,President of Dec-Tam commented “Over the years we have tried to make safety a priority and part of our culture here at Dec-Tam. It is nice to hear that our valued customers appreciate it.” Dec-Tam performed the selective demolition on Phase 3 of this project. As part of this renovation, offices, labs, cold rooms and bathrooms were completely demolished down to the studs. Walls were removed, epoxy coating were ground off floors, and concrete was repoured in some areas. Jack Conway EMD Serono’s Facility ProjectManager added “kudos once again to the Dec-Tam team; all of us at EMD Serono came away extremely impressed with the way you executed this job.”
Dec-Tam is proud of its project management capabilities and safety programs. We have a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) on staff. Dec-Tam’s EMR experience modification rate (EMR) of 0.81 is one of the lowest in the industry. In addition, Dec-Tam has received two safetyawards: Massachusetts Safety Council, first place and Associated Builders and Contractors, second place.« Back to Case Studies
